We’re worried about delay in parliamentary approval of fees – UG management

Management of the University of Ghana have said that they are worried about the delay in parliamentary approval for the 2019/2020 academic year fee schedule.

Students of the University have over the weeks been demanding for updates on the fee schedule for the forthcoming academic year.

They have expressed fears that the fees will be increased tremendously, considering the fact that academic cost has not been reviewed since the 2016/2017 academic year.

Speaking on the matter, the University’s Director of Public Affairs, Mad. Stella Amoa, indicated that University management was equally concerned about the matter.

She intimated that academic cost was supposed to be increasing every year based on the inflation rate but that has not happened in the last three years.

She added that the University was not planning on going ahead with an unapproved fee structure.

“As the students are worried we also are concerned  because in the past we would have some increment every year based on the inflation rate and this has not happened in the last three years so the University is also concerned as much as the students, also not just concerned but worried.

The University does not want to go with a fee structure that have not been approved by parliament. It is about three years ago that the parliament brought the attention of the universities that we need to clear the fees with parliament before issuing,” she said.

Stella Amoa also mentioned that University management does not want to have disagreements with the students body over the matter, therefore, it was only right that they await parliament for the fee structure for the 2019/2020 academic year which commences in August.
