Ferdinand EducationGhana | January 19 | TTAG Engages SLTF on Allowance, Scholarships, and Payment Reforms

TTAG engaged the Students Loan Trust Fund to address trainee allowances, scholarships, arrears, and payment reforms affecting teacher trainees nationwide.
The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has held a formal engagement with the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) to discuss critical welfare issues affecting teacher trainees across the country.  The meeting focused on allowance sustainability, payment delays, scholarship access, and reforms aimed at improving the distribution of trainee allowances.

Focus on Allowance Sustainability and Access

During the engagement, TTAG leadership raised concerns about the timely release of trainee allowances and challenges linked to the E-Zwich payment system.  TTAG explained that payment delays and access barriers have placed financial pressure on trainees, affecting academic focus and general wellbeing.

SLTF Responds to Arrears and Payment Concerns

The Chief Executive Officer of SLTF acknowledged the concerns raised and assured TTAG that arrears from the previous academic year would be addressed as soon as practicable.
The assurance, according to SLTF, is intended to reduce the financial burden on trainees while improving confidence in the allowance administration process.

New Direct Payment System Announced

SLTF further announced plans to pilot a new allowance payment system in early February.Under the proposed system, allowances will be paid directly into trainees’ bank accounts and accessed through mobile banking, reducing dependence on intermediaries and improving transparency.

Next Steps and Stakeholder Engagement

Registration and sensitization exercises are expected to follow the pilot phase to ensure smooth nationwide implementation.TTAG reaffirmed its commitment to sustained engagement with stakeholders to protect the welfare, dignity, and future of teacher trainees in Ghana.
