Tepa to benefit from $2.03m vocational institute

Kids Prosper Kids (KPK), a non-governmental organisation based in the United States of America (USA), has cut the sod for the construction of a US$2,038,025.66 vocational and technical training institute at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North District in the Ashanti Region.

The school, to be named Prosper Life Career Institute (PLCI) when completed, will help provide employment opportunities for young adults through practical hands-on training.

The institute will offer courses in sewing, carpentry, masonry, bakery, welding & fabrication, and subsequently introduce health-related courses such as dental assistants.

The group is in consultation to partner with the Council for Technical and Vocational Educational Training (COVET) and other licensing bodies to help facilitate the accreditation of programmes that are relevant in today’s work market.

Event

The Founder of Kids Prosper Kids, Madam Kimberli Brackett, last Monday led a delegation from the US to officially cut the sod for the project which has already commenced and is currently at foundation level.

Also present at the ceremony were the Ankobeahene of Tepa, Nana Amoateng Tuffuor; the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Mrs Matina Appiah-Nyantatyi, and some members of the Ghana Board of Kids Prosper Kids.

The project is expected to be completed by 2023.

Founder

Madam Brackett in a short speech commended the Tepa Traditional Council for releasing a 10-acre plot of land free of charge for the construction of the institute.

The Founder, a Class Five Mathematics tutor in the US, said the initiative to set up the school was born out of her pupils’ generosity towards deprived children in Ghana, hence the establishment of Kids Prosper Kids in 2017.

She explained that the institute sought to provide innovative technical training to develop entrepreneurship with relevant employment skills.

“This will create leaders of influence who will positively transform the people and future of Ghana”, she said.

MCE

For her part, Mrs Appiah-Nyantatyi said she was grateful to the group for choosing Tepa for the establishment of such an educational complex.

She gave an assurance that the assembly would continue to render the needed assistance to ensure that the projects came to fruition.

The MCE used the opportunity to appeal to the KPK to include headgear and soap making in their courses, adding that those two were demand-driven in the area.

“There is enough raw material here to make soap”, she noted and added that because of lack of expertise those materials were exported to Benin and other neighbouring countries for ‘peanuts.’

Commendation

Reading a speech on behalf of the Tepamanhene, the Ankobeahene of Tepa, Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem, commended the NGO and said vocational training was key and relevant in today’s world.

He urged the youth of Tepa and its environs to take up the opportunity by enrolling at the school to learn employable skills.
