The National Association of Graduate Teachers On Campus, Ghana National Association of Teachers On Campus and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers On Campus have written to their Union leader concerning the inability of the GhananEducation Service (GES) to provide them with TM 1 Laptops that they have paid for.

We, the National Association of Graduate Teachers On Campus, Ghana National Association of Teachers On Campus and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers On Campus, write to our union leaders to draw their attention to the worrying developments concerning the shortage of TM1 laptops and the inability of the GES to distribute the laptops to teachers on campus UEW-K (AAMUSTED)

To give teachers laptops to help them in their professions, our unions deducted 30% of the price of the TM1 laptop in December.

The way the deductions were handled dissatisfied the teachers, but our union leaders stood up to defend them and promised to provide all Ghanaian teachers with laptops. For almost eight months now, all teachers on campus are yet to receive their laptops.

Our unions’ leaders never stop offering justifications for the distribution delay. Is it possible that the leaders of our unions lack respect for their members or have simply forgotten their responsibility to defend the interests of the union members?

It has taken some time for us to process the rage happening in this noble profession of ours because it affects us. The GES and our union leaders’ inability to provide teachers on campus UEW-K (AAMUSTED) with their laptops have deeply impacted us, and we all know you are likely impacted also.

For some of us, we have seen the rippling of protests on campuses, institutions and the nation at large, as individuals, workers, student activists and leaders pave the way for holding institutional and organizational leaders accountable. Are our union leaders holding off till we reach that stage?

We protest against the backdrop of our union leaders’ refusal to provide us with any meaningful information and the GES’s inability to distribute our laptops to us for almost eight months now.

We urge vigorous action to be taken immediately for teachers on campus to get their laptops before the 15th of August to avert further rage and demonstration.
