Prof. Samuel Ofori Bekoe Appointed as New Director-General of NaCCA

Prof. Samuel Ofori Bekoe of UEW has been appointed as the Director-General of NaCCA. A curriculum expert and Eduwatch Board Chair, he brings 16+ years of education leadership.

Ghana’s education sector takes a significant leap forward with the appointment of Professor Samuel Ofori Bekoe, a seasoned educationist from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), as the new Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).

He replaces Prof Yayra Dzakadzie, who was also from the University of Education and appointed by the former president Akuffo Addo.

This announcement has been welcomed with great optimism by stakeholders, given Prof. Bekoe’s rich background in curriculum reform and teacher development. His leadership is expected to usher in a new phase of progressive reforms in Ghana’s education system, especially in the design and implementation of competency-based curricula.


Prof. Samuel Ofori Bekoe: A Visionary in Education Reform

Prof. Samuel Ofori Bekoe is the Director of the Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development at UEW. He also serves as Board Chair and Senior Technical Advisor at Eduwatch, providing voluntary technical support to promote educational transformation across the country.

With over 16 years of experience in Human Capital Development and Human Performance Improvement, Prof. Bekoe has distinguished himself as a key figure in curriculum design, teacher training, and educational policy advisory. His impressive portfolio includes consultancy and technical roles with prominent international organizations such as MasterCard Foundation, AfDB, USAID, UNICEF, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Prof. Bekoe’s expertise spans:

  • Curriculum and instructional design
  • Performance-based and skills-based assessment tools
  • Training for assessors/appraisers
  • Programme evaluation and needs assessments

He has also contributed to academic and curriculum assessments for institutions such as Monash University (Australia), University for Development Studies (Ghana), Institute of Education, University of London (UK), and KNUST (Ghana).
