Western Region schools including GSTS, St. John’s School, Archbishop Porter Girls’, and Fijai SHS will represent the region in NSMQ 2025. Here’s the full list of seeded schools, qualifiers, and prospects.

Western Region—A Stronghold of Science and Math Excellence

The Western Region has always played a key role in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), producing highly competitive schools that consistently feature in the later stages of the contest. Leading this tradition are the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), known for their technical brilliance, and St. John’s School (Sekondi), both of which remain among the strongest contenders from the region. The presence of Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS (APGSS) also ensures strong female representation, while schools like Fijai SHS and Sekondi College add depth to the regional competition.

Seeded Schools

From their 2024 performance, the following schools from Western Region secured seeded spots for NSMQ 2025:

  • Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS)
  • St. John’s School, Sekondi

These two schools have direct entry into the national championship.

Regional Qualifiers

The regional qualifiers added more schools to the Western Region’s representation for NSMQ 2025:

  • Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS (APGSS)
  • Fijai SHS
  • Sekondi College (SEKCO)
  • Shama SHS
  • Adiembra SHS
  • Ahantaman Girls SHS
  • Amenfiman SHS
  • Fiaseman SHS

These qualifiers highlight the region’s wide distribution of talent and strong science tradition.

Girls’ Schools Representation

Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS (APGSS) and the AHANTAMAN Girls’ SHS remain the flagship girls’ schools from the Western Region in NSMQ. Their qualification for 2025 continues their strong tradition of representing girls on the national stage.

Key Storylines to Watch

  • GSTS’s Quest for National Glory: Can they finally convert their consistent quarterfinal appearances into a trophy run?
  • St. John’s School’s Revival: A traditional giant aiming to reclaim national spotlight.
  • APGSS’s Big Test: Can they break barriers for girls’ schools at NSMQ?
  • Shama SHS’s Emergence: As newcomers, they’ll be keen to make a mark on the big stage.

Outlook

The Western Region’s representation in NSMQ 2025 balances tradition and fresh ambition. With two seeded schools and four qualifiers, the region stands a solid chance of pushing one or more schools into the semifinals or beyond. All eyes will be on GSTS and St. John’s, but APGSS and Shama SHS could spring surprises.
