The event officially launched on October 1, 2024, at the GNAT Hall in Accra, where balloting was conducted to fairly group competing schools into three pots labeled A, B, and C.
This year’s competition promises to be even more thrilling, with the NSMQ relocating to Cape Coast, a city renowned for its educational heritage.
From October 14, 2024, the preliminary stage will kick off at three venues within the University of Cape Coast: CNC Auditorium, SGS Auditorium, and Auditorium 900.
Each venue will host different contests daily, providing a platform for schools from across the country to showcase their scientific and mathematical expertise.
Private Schools Ready to Make Their Mark
Among the competing schools are eight private institutions, aiming to prove their capabilities against the more established public schools.
Some private schools, such as Hope College and Bright SHS, are participating in the NSMQ for the first time, while others like Wallahs Academy and Sonrise Christian High School return with renewed determination.
Anticipated Thrills and Challenges
The competition will be intense, with 27 schools already securing spots in the one-eighth stage of the championship. The preliminary contests will determine which additional schools will join them in the subsequent rounds, setting the stage for even more electrifying matchups.
A Proud Tradition Continues
Since its inception in 1993, the NSMQ has grown into Ghana’s most esteemed academic competition, inspiring thousands of students to pursue STEM fields. This year, the move to Cape Coast provides an opportunity for regional audiences to engage with the contest, while the nation eagerly watches to see which schools will rise to the challenge.
With all eyes on the University of Cape Coast, the NSMQ 2024 promises a showcase of brilliance, resilience, and the pursuit of academic excellence.
