Bishop Herman College has earned a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) with a thrilling victory. The school finished the contest with 49 points, narrowly beating Konongo Odumase SHS, who scored 48 points, while Wallahs Academy ended with 32 points. This victory has set the stage for more exciting battles as Bishop Herman College prepares for the next round.
The Opening: A Warm Welcome and Encouraging Remarks
The Quiz Mistress, Dr. Mrs. Gladys Odey Schwinger, opened the one-eighth round with inspiring words, wishing all contestants the best of luck. The hall was packed with alumni from Bishop Herman College and Konongo Odumase SHS, who eagerly awaited the start of the contest.
Round One: A Slow Start for Wallahs Academy
The competition kicked off with Wallahs Academy struggling to gain ground, scoring just 3 points in the first round. In contrast, Konongo Odumase SHS came out strong with 21 points, while Bishop Herman College adopted a more cautious approach, securing 18 points. It was clear that the rivalry between Bishop Herman and Konongo Odumase would set the tone for the rest of the contest.
Round Two: Prudential Life Insurance Speed Race Intensifies the Contest
The second round, known as the Prudential Life Insurance Speed Race, proved to be a closely contested battle between Bishop Herman College and Konongo Odumase SHS. Wallahs Academy, facing a significant points deficit, opted not to participate actively in the round. This left Bishop Herman and Konongo Odumase to vie for dominance, with the latter taking the lead by the end of the round.
Round Three: The ‘Problem of the Day’ – A High-Scoring Round
In the third round, all three schools demonstrated impressive problem-solving skills during the ‘Problem of the Day.’ Surprisingly, Wallahs Academy achieved the highest score in this round, adding 10 points to their tally and reaching a total of 12 points. Bishop Herman College followed with 33 points, while Konongo Odumase SHS led with 35 points, creating an even more intense atmosphere for the final stages of the contest.
Round Four: Wallahs Academy’s Resurgence in the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round
The fourth round witnessed a resurgence from Wallahs Academy as they answered all their True/False questions correctly, raising their score to 26 points. Despite this, Bishop Herman College and Konongo Odumase SHS retained their positions at the top, with 46 and 48 points respectively. With just two points separating the leading schools, the tension in the auditorium was palpable.
Round Five: A Thrilling Goil Riddle Bonanza Decides the Contest
The final round, the Goil Riddle Bonanza, became the decider. Bishop Herman College answered the first riddle correctly, closing in on Konongo Odumase’s lead. Wallahs Academy then successfully answered the second riddle, while Bishop Herman secured the third, setting the stage for a dramatic finale.
The final riddle, crucial in determining which school would advance to the quarter-finals, was answered by Wallahs Academy, sealing Konongo Odumase’s fate and sparking celebrations among Bishop Herman College supporters.
