Komenda College of Education, located in the Central Region of Ghana, has secured the 6th position in the 2025/2026 National Colleges of Education League Rankings. The college’s rise in the national standings is attributed to its excellent academic outcomes, strong infrastructural development, and its growing reputation as one of the best teacher training institutions in the coastal belt of Ghana.

Academic Performance

Komenda College of Education recorded impressive results in the 2024 graduating cohort. Out of 590 graduates, the breakdown was as follows:

  • First Class: 189

  • Second Class Upper: 308

  • Second Class Lower: 87

  • Third Class: 6

  • Pass: 0

This means that over 84% of graduates attained either First Class or Second-Class Upper honours, a clear indication of the college’s commitment to academic excellence.

The academic performance at Komenda is supported by:

  • Well-structured STS (Supported Teaching in Schools) programmes in nearby districts.

  • Regular academic reviews and continuous assessment systems, ensuring high standards.

  • Strong mentorship from experienced tutors, who emphasize both pedagogy and professionalism.

The absence of “Pass” category graduates in the 2024 results highlights the college’s ability to maintain strict quality control in its teacher preparation programmes.

Infrastructure

Komenda has been steadily expanding and upgrading its facilities, with investments supported by both government funding and donor initiatives. Notable infrastructure developments include:

  • A multi-purpose library complex, combining traditional print and digital learning resources.

  • Refurbished science laboratories supporting B.Ed. Junior High Education in STEM subjects.

  • ICT Centre with computer labs used for digital pedagogy and blended learning.

  • Newly built lecture halls with modern furniture and teaching aids.

  • Student hostels designed to reduce accommodation shortages.

These infrastructural improvements position Komenda as one of the best-equipped colleges in the Central Region.

With a student population of approximately 1,500, Komenda College is one of the medium-to-large-sized colleges in Ghana. Its enrolment strategy balances accessibility with quality, ensuring students from diverse regions, including the Central, Western, and Ashanti Regions, benefit from its training.

Female enrolment stands at 48%, reflecting the college’s steady progress toward gender balance in the teacher training landscape.

Geography and Community Context

Komenda College of Education is located in the coastal town of Komenda, Central Region. Its geographical position makes it a hub for student teachers from the coastal and western corridors of Ghana. The town’s history as part of Ghana’s colonial and missionary heritage blends with the college’s role in shaping the future of education.

Through community outreach projects, Komenda student teachers engage in literacy promotion, environmental conservation, and public health education, strengthening the bond between the institution and its host community.
