KNUST Final-Year Students Build Electric Car “Nyansapɔ” as Graduation Project A team of final-year students from KNUST’s BA Integrated Rural Art & Industry and BSc Automobile Engineering programs have designed and built an electric car named “Nyansapɔ” as their final-year project.

A group of final-year students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has showcased remarkable innovation by building an electric car named “Nyansapɔ” as part of their final-year project.

The project brought together talents from the BA Integrated Rural Art & Industry program and the BSc Automobile Engineering program, highlighting the power of interdisciplinary collaboration.

The electric car, “Nyansapɔ”—which translates as “Wisdom Knot” in Akan—was supervised by lecturers from both departments. It is expected to spark conversation about sustainable transportation solutions in Ghana and demonstrate how local innovation can contribute to addressing global environmental challenges.

The feat further underscores KNUST’s role as a hub for creativity, engineering, and applied research. The project blends technology with indigenous artistry, showcasing a unique Ghanaian approach to green technology.
