KETASCO Students’ Bus Stoned After Inter-Schools Sports Event, Authorities Urged to Investigate

A bus transporting students of Keta Senior High Technical School was attacked with stones while returning from the Southern Zone Inter-Schools Sports and Games, raising concerns over safety at school sporting events.

A bus transporting students of (KETASCO) has reportedly been attacked by unknown individuals who threw stones at the vehicle while the students were returning from the ongoing Southern Zone Inter-Schools Sports and Games.

The incident occurred as the students were travelling home after participating in the sporting competition, which is designed to promote unity, sportsmanship, and talent development among senior high schools within the southern sector.

Students Targeted After Sporting Event

Witness accounts indicate that the bus was conveying KETASCO students who had represented their school during the games. While en route back, individuals allegedly hurled stones at the bus, creating a tense and dangerous situation for the students onboard.

Although details regarding injuries or damage to the vehicle have not yet been officially confirmed, the act has raised serious concerns about the safety of students participating in inter-school sporting competitions.

Education observers note that buses transporting students from such events often carry dozens of young people, making any form of attack particularly dangerous.

Condemnation of School Sports Violence

Many education stakeholders and members of the public have condemned the act, describing it as an unacceptable display of hooliganism.

School sports events in Ghana traditionally serve as platforms to build friendship, teamwork, and healthy rivalry among students from different institutions. However, isolated incidents of violence have occasionally overshadowed the positive objectives of such programmes.

Observers say attacking a bus carrying students places innocent lives at risk and undermines the spirit of sportsmanship that inter-school competitions seek to promote.

Calls for Investigation

Several voices within the education community have called on authorities to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.

Officials within the are expected to work together with local security agencies to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Education advocates stress that swift action will be necessary to discourage similar incidents in future school competitions.

Protecting the Spirit of School Sports

The Southern Zone Inter-Schools Sports and Games form part of Ghana’s broader school sports calendar, which helps nurture athletic talent and strengthen relationships among students from different schools.

Stakeholders argue that maintaining discipline and respect during such events remains essential to preserving their purpose.

The attack on the KETASCO bus has therefore renewed calls for stronger security arrang ements and stricter enforcement of rules during school sports activities
