Ferdinand | EducationGhana | July 22 | GTEC Directs Controller and Accountant-General to Cease July 2024 Salaries of CETAG Members
GTEC has directed the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to cease July 2024 salaries of CETAG members, excluding College Principals, due to an ongoing illegal strike since June 2024.
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a directive to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) to halt the July 2024 salaries of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) members. This action excludes the College Principals.
An official letter dated July 22, 2024, and signed by Nicholas Ameyaw (Head IPPD) on behalf of Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director General of GTEC, stated that the decision was made due to CETAG members’ failure to call off an illegal strike that began in June 2024.
“At the instance of the Minister of Education on the non-adherence of CETAG members to call off an illegal strike from June 2024, you are by this letter requested to stop the salaries of all teaching staff of the Colleges of Education (CETAG) except for the College Principals for July 2024,” the letter specified.
Furthermore, the directive instructed College Principals not to validate the July 2024 salaries of the teaching staff, emphasizing the need for adherence to the directive.
This development marks a significant step in addressing the ongoing strike issue within the Colleges of Education, as GTEC seeks to enforce compliance with educational regulations.
