EducationGhana, May 25, TTAG: The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has confirmed that it has received a cheque from the Government through the Ministry of Finance for the payment of all allowances.

The GTEC Director-General, Dr. Mohammed Salifu made this revelation to the leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana, TTAG, and published by the Teacher Trainees Weekly Journal in their  24th to 30th May edition.

According to TTAG, Dr. Salifu confirmed receiving the cheque from the Ministry of Finance which he said he was working on for the disbursement of the allowances to the appropriate bodies.

SLTF Assurance

The TTAG leadership further elaborated, that Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has said that the Fund Managers were almost through with the process and shall pay the allowances immediately they receive their cheque from  GTEC.

The delay

Earlier, Teacher Trainees in the Public Colleges of Education have shown their displeasure towards the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) managers over the continuous delay in the payment of their monthly allowances.

The trainees said the delay without justifications is causing a lot of challenges for them financially whilst on campus as well as off-campus for the Blending Learning System.

”The whole of last semester, we never received our allowances and this is what most trainees depend on for fees and purchasing of study materials amongst others.” A trainee teacher said in an interview with EducationGhana’s Ellis Ferdinand.

”You could imagine the stress we endured without the allowance last semester through to vacations and school resumes  May 8 and nothing better from Government or other stakeholders have been communicated to us till date.” The trainee lamented.
