Ferdinand | EducationGhana | January 17 | GES Responds to Alleged Feeding Situation at Savelugu SHS, Assures Public of Nationwide Standards
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has responded to a viral video alleging poor feeding at Savelugu Senior High School, describing it as an isolated case and announcing investigations and intensified monitoring.
GES Addresses Viral Video on Savelugu SHS Feeding
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued an official statement following the circulation of a video on social media alleging poor feeding conditions at Savelugu Senior High School in the Northern Region.
In a press release dated 16 January 2026, GES management confirmed awareness of the video and stated that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves, given the importance of student welfare and nutrition in public schools.
Quality Student Feeding Remains a Priority
According to the statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, GES considers quality feeding a core component of effective teaching and learning.
Management emphasised that any form of mismanagement within the feeding system is regarded as a serious offence, as it undermines government efforts to improve student welfare nationwide.
The Service reiterated its commitment to strengthening the school feeding framework, especially at the second cycle level.
GES Cites Improvements in School Feeding Delivery
GES acknowledged that, in general, student feeding across public senior high schools has seen notable improvement. This progress, according to management, has been driven largely by improved collaboration between Buffer Stock Company officials and school heads.
The Service noted that these efforts have contributed to better food supply and coordination in most schools.
Incident Described as Isolated as Investigations Begin
Management assured parents, students, and the general public that the situation at Savelugu SHS does not reflect the overall feeding status in schools across the country.
The Service described the incident as an isolated case and confirmed that investigations have already been initiated to establish the facts and take appropriate action where necessary.

Unannounced Monitoring Visits to Be Intensified
As part of measures to safeguard student welfare, GES announced that its Monitoring Team will intensify unannounced visits to schools nationwide. These visits are expected to improve compliance, accountability, and early detection of challenges within the feeding system.
School Heads and Stakeholders Urged to Report Challenges
GES further urged school heads and education stakeholders to promptly report any peculiar challenges or irregularities they encounter to management. This, the Service noted, will allow for timely intervention and prevent avoidable escalation of issues.
Public Assurance
The Ghana Education Service reassured the public of its continued commitment to protecting students’ welfare and maintaining acceptable standards in all public schools.
