Big News for JHS Candidates and Parents!

The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have taken bold steps to transform access to Senior High School education in Ghana. Private schools are now part of the Free SHS policy (pilot) — and to help students make informed choices, GES has extended the school selection deadline to June 25, 2025.

✅ What’s New?

📌 Private Schools Join Free SHS (Pilot Phase)

The Ministry of Education has officially released the first list of selected private SHSs under the Free SHS policy. This pilot inclusion aims to:

  • Expand access to quality secondary education
  • Reduce congestion in public SHSs
  • Improve infrastructure in under-resourced areas

🔗 Schools were selected based on overflow areas and strategic location to support public sector demand.

🕒 Extended Deadline: Wednesday, 25th June 2025

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the BECE school selection period to accommodate this change. Final-year JHS students now have more time to:

✅ Consult teachers and parents
✅ Review newly added private schools
✅ Make thoughtful school choices

“Students are urged to take full advantage of this extended period,” — Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director, GES.

🚀 What This Means for Students

🎯 More Options

Students who missed out on their preferred public SHS now have more options to access free secondary education.

🏫 Better Infrastructure

Participating private schools will benefit from improved facilities and support — meaning better learning environments.

🤝 Partnership in Progress

This reform is powered by strong collaboration with GNACOPS and other education stakeholders.

📍 What’s Next?

1️⃣ School Heads will receive updated school registers including newly added private SHSs.

2️⃣ Students & Parents should revisit their school choices and consult updated placement forms.

3️⃣ Ongoing Monitoring will assess how this pilot can be expanded and improved.
