NSMQ 2024 starts today at the University of Cape Coast, with top schools competing fiercely in the Preliminary Stage. Discover which teams are poised for redemption and who might make history.
The 2024 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship officially begins today, October 7, 2024, at the University of Cape Coast (UCC). This marks the first time UCC is hosting the prestigious academic competition, which promises to be an exhilarating experience for all. With three auditoriums—CNC, SGS Auditorium, and Auditorium 900—set to host the daily contests, the stage is ready for intense competition as schools battle for a spot in the One-eighth Stage.
High Stakes at the Preliminary Stage
The contest lineup features some schools eager for redemption and others looking to make history. Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS faces off against Wenchi Methodist SHS and Ejisuman SHS in a heated showdown. Wenchi Methodist comes in strong after winning their Regional Qualifiers, having missed the National Championship last year. Meanwhile, Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS is looking for a comeback after falling short by a single point in the Preliminary Stage last year. Ejisuman SHS, who was also knocked out in the Preliminary Stage last year, secured their place this year by winning their Regional Qualifiers.
Fresh Opportunities and Fierce Rivals
In another intriguing match, Adanwomase SHS, the champions of their Ashanti Regional Qualifiers, will face Wallahs Academy and O’Reilly SHS. O’Reilly SHS returns to the competition after missing last year’s event and will aim to make an impact this time around. Wallahs Academy, a relatively new participant, is eager to surpass their previous year’s performance, where they were eliminated by Aggrey Memorial Zion SHS.
Sekondi College, a seasoned competitor, looks to improve on their early exit from last year when they lost to St. Catherine SHS. They will be up against Bright SHS, a private institution making its first appearance, and Tepa SHS, who returns to the National Championship after winning their Regional Qualifiers.
Mixed Emotions and High Expectations
The atmosphere is filled with anticipation as contestants, supporters, and schools brace themselves for the challenges ahead. The Preliminary Stage is not just about winning; it’s also about proving one’s mettle and showcasing the academic prowess that makes the NSMQ a beloved annual event in Ghana. As each school strives to secure a spot in the One-eighth Stage, the competition is set to deliver thrilling moments and unforgettable experiences.
