The Samira Empowerment & Humanitarian Projects-SEHP (SEHP) distributed reading materials to the Police Basic School,

Trinity Presby Model School, Apimpoa Islamic Basic School, Effiduase Presby School and the Oyoko Methodist School

in the New Juaben South and North Municipalities in the Eastern Region, as part of our Library-in-a-Box Project.

Library-in-a-Box continues to encourage reading habits and literacy in schools with the aim of improving learning outcomes.

 

According to the Second Lady, Mrs Samira Bawumia, the objective of her non-profit organization “The Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project” is to improve literacy, and critical thinking and promote the culture of reading among pupils in Ghana.

“I’m excited because as I advocate for literacy and critical thinking, I believe in encouraging the love for reading among children and pupils of all ages. It is for those reasons that my not-for-profit organization, the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project have as part of its objective to improve literacy, and critical thinking and promote a culture of reading among pupils in Ghana.”

Education in itself is an empowering right and one of the most powerful tools which economically and socially marginalized individuals can utilize to lift themselves out of poverty and participate fully in society, we believe education is the bedrock upon which every nation’s growth and development I anchored”. Mrs. Samira Bawumia said.

She reiterated that education is the bedrock upon which every nation’s growth and development is anchored therefore the nation has it as a duty to invest in our human resources for the ultimate benefit of our nation, she said has been the vision of the current government led by H.E Nana Akuffo Addo”.

“Our human society and its resource capital which is our greatest asset and we have a duty to invest in our human resource for the ultimate benefit of our nation,  it is gratifying to see that H.E President Nana Akuffo Addo’s government is focused on its vision of ensuring that quality education becomes accessible to all children irrespective of their social or financial circumferences,

As part of our library in a box project which is an initiative to provide books to schools with understock or no library we are here today to donate books to Affiduase Presby Basic, Police Basic School, Trinity Basic School, Model Basic School, Presby Basic School and Oyoko Methodist Basic School”

The Second Lady finally encouraged the students to cultivate the habit of reading and enjoying reading as a constructive way of spending their time, she also urged teachers to support children in their various schools by allotting reading periods on their timetables.

“Through this donation we want our children to learn to cherish good books to read as often as possible and to enjoy reading as a constructive way of spending their time, I believe that cultivating the habit of reading is important and will serve as a springboard for our children to excel”.

The Municipal Director of Education, Mr Haruna Mustafa Appiah receiving the books on behalf of the schools, promised to ensure that the children make good use of the books by occasionally visiting the selected beneficiary schools and ensuring the objective of the donation is achieved.

The paramount chief of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III thanked the Second Lady for the kind gesture shown to the people and students of New Juaben Traditional Area and promised to remember the Second Lady in prayers in the upcoming Akwasidae festival.

The member of parliament for New Juaben South, Hon. Okyere Baafi also voiced his appreciation to the Second Lady and further advised the students to make education and learning their topmost priority since the next phase of the modern world will heavily rely on educated people.
