Meagre Capitation Grant
The teachers in an interview with EducationGhana‘s Ellis Ferdinand argued that the capitation grants which the GES seems to deduct monies from for the upkeep of its district education offices is very small and can not provide for the needs of the schools.
Late Payment
Some teachers also indicated, that the GES has never paid the grants on time and so were surprised to hear of further deductions from the amount that has always arrived late and depreciated in value.

The order
The Ghana Education Service (GES ) has earlier directed the district directors and school heads that the existing arrangement for stationery use at the district offices should be deducted from the schools’ capitation grants.
The GES made this revelation in a letter dated March 31, 2021, to all regional directors of Education and signed by its Deputy director-general in charge of Quality and Assurance, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh for the Director-General.
