Competition opens to student on Covid-19 short stories – Apply Here

As part of measures to get students who are currently on mandatory vacation busy, as a result of the outbreak of the pandemic, coronavirus (COVID-19),  Studentshubgh in collaboration with Sedesel Publications are organizing writing competition for students.

The challenge is for students who are home from school with little to occupy themselves and missing out on the social activities they are used to.

“This challenge will help students use this time creatively and will give them the opportunity to harness the present situation for storytelling”, a joint statement by the two institutions said.

Government imposed a ban on all public gatherings like conferences, schools, funerals, festivals, political rallies, church services, Islamic worship for four weeks which started on Monday, March 16, 2020, due to COVID-19.

The competition, according to Studentshubgh and Sedesel Publications, will keep the students busy and also earn a price while home.

Below are the details of the competition:

Max 2000 words (titles are not included in the word count.)

Stories not meeting these rules would be disqualified.

– Send only stories; poetry with line breaks will not be considered. –1 submission per person.

Only original unpublished stories are accepted

–Send your stories as a pdf attachment to

admin@studentshubgh.com. Page size:

A4 Font and Font Size: Times New Roman, 12 points.

–By entering this contest the author grants

Studentshubgh and Sedesel Publications the rights to publish the story.

All rights revert to the author upon publication.

– All submissions must have a cover page with the following details:

  • Title of story
  • Name of author
  • City of residence
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Email address
  • Telephone number

Prices

First prize: Laptop + Book Package + Short story published in the collection

2rd Prize: Book Package + Tablet (Kobo

reader/Kindle reader) + Short story published in tHE collection

3rd Prize: Book Package + Short story published in a collection

Top 10 will all have their short stories published in the collection

Why this challenge

COVID 19 pandemic continues to put the world on hold.

Students are home from school with little to occupy themselves and missing out on the social activities they are used to.

This challenge will help students use this time creatively and will give them the opportunity to harness the present situation for storytelling.

Who can enter?

Ghanaian students between the ages 17 and 25 are invited to submit a short story between 1000 words and maximum 2000 words under one of the following themes:

– Social Distancing

– Isolation
