Accra Girls Senior High School has taken a monumental step towards enhancing the welfare of its teaching staff by commissioning a self-help staff accommodation project.

This initiative, hailed as a model of institutional innovation, forms part of a broader vision to provide decent housing for teachers who play an indispensable role in shaping the lives of students.

The event was graced by the presence of the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who commended the school’s initiative and reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to improving access and quality in education.

In a significant announcement, the Minister revealed that the double-track system, long considered a challenge for many schools, will soon be phased out. He disclosed that an amount of ¢1 billion has been earmarked in the 2026 budget specifically for this purpose, marking a pivotal moment for the educational sector in Ghana.

The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Smile Dzisi, also addressed the gathering, emphasising the critical importance of girl-child education. She called for sustained efforts to ensure that girls are not only enrolled in school but are provided with the necessary support to thrive and excel academically and personally.

For the Headmistress, Mrs. Gifty Andoh, the new bungalows represent far more than mere structures; they symbolise innovation, sacrifice, and the power of community effort. Under her astute leadership, the Board of Governors, Management, Project Committee, Staff, Alumni, and Students rallied together to bring the project to fruition. Mrs. Andoh pledged to continue leading with vision, creativity, and motherly care, ensuring that the school remains a beacon of excellence.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi, and the Chair of the Board of Governors of Accra Girls SHS were also present to offer their support and blessings. They praised the collaborative effort that made the project possible and encouraged other institutions to emulate this exemplary initiative.
