Webster Ghana holds fifth commencement ceremony

Webster Ghana has celebrated its fifth commencement in Accra.

The ceremony which was held on campus last Saturday, saw both undergraduate and graduate students celebrate academic excellence, amid cheers and excitement from family and friends.

This year’s ceremony convened students from three of the Webster schools – George Herbert Walker School of Business and Technology, School of Communications and College of Arts and Sciences.

Addressing the graduating class in her welcome address, Campus Director, Christa Sanders, challenged the graduates to make their own mark in society.

“Be the change that you wish to see.” she said.

The commencement address was delivered by Farida Bedwei, the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Logiciel (Ghana) Ltd, a software company developing banking systems for the microfinance industry.

Farida is also an author and a disability-rights advocate, and has been featured on many media platforms, notable amongst this is CNN African Voices in February 2015.

In her commencement address, Farida congratulated the students and told them that the graduation was the culmination of a long and challenging but ultimately rewarding journey saying  “be the one to turn the tide, and in doing so, turn your environment into a vibrant one, full of promise and high expectations.”

The Ghana campus was also fortunate to have Dr. Simone Cummings, Dean of George Herbert Walker School of Business and Technology, deliver a speech to the graduating class. To lend credence to the graduating class, Dr. Cummings said, “I have no doubt that you will be able to make changes that impact not only Africa but the world.”

During the ceremony, individual students were also recognized for their outstanding overall academic performance on their individual study programs – Makera Apiri, B.A in Management and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, M.A. International relations.

Other speakers took turns addressing the graduates, including the US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie S. Sullivan and Sheila Naah-Boamah, a representative from the Ghana Ministry of Education.

The ceremony was also attended by the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Giovanni Favilli and other dignitaries.

Also, in attendance was Nancy Keteku, former Regional Educational Advising Coordinator at Education USA.

Overall, the event was a great celebration and mustered the largest classes and audience participation in the history of Webster Ghana commencements.
