WAEC to conduct First National Standardized Test for Basic 4 Learners

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has confirmed the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) this year will administer the 2021 and first national standardised test for primary four students across the country.

The Bosomtwe MP disclosed this speaking at the 2021 and 4th edition of the National Education Week Program on the theme “Reimagining education for national transformation on Tuesday, 28th September 2021 at the Labadi beach hotel.

“So after the conduct of the 2021 national standardised test by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), we expect over 90% of primary four students in the country to be proficient in English,” Dr Adutwum stated at the event.

The impending national standardised examination, the Education Minister said is to drastically reduce learning poverty he disclosed has increased among prospective students in the country amid the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The test is to evaluate the primary 4 students on whether they can read or not and this will also help the government to see the challenges that are confronting the country’s education sector,” the Teaching Minister said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the National Education Week Program, Mr Yaw Osei Adutwum said this year’s national standardised examination will be administered in November this year for all primary four (4) students across the nation.

A sample of the standardised questions the Minister for Education said will be sent to district directors for onward distribution to head of schools before the commencement of the national examination scheduled for November 2021.

According to Dr Adutwum, results of the test in mathematics and literacy will be given to every single parent to monitor the progress of their wards. The results he said will be available on a website for public access.

“We have a dashboard coming that will allow the Education Minister to log in and see the attendance of every district, to see how every district is doing and the results will be on the dashboard,” the Bosomtwe MP stated.
