EducationGhana, July 18, Teachers: Ghanaian Award winning Education Blogger and Journalist at Summer 106.9 FM in Accra, Ellis Ferdinand has questioned the intention of President Akuffo Addo to remind teachers of their inability to make millions with their chosen profession.
In an Editorial on his show THE FORUM, a Sociopolitical and Current Affairs Program, Saturday, July 17, 2021, Ellis Ferdinand said it was prudent for the president to ensure the payment of Salary Arrears of teachers to ensure their financial stability.
He added, that the government and the employer, the Ghana Education Service (GES) owed teachers salaries arrears for so many years but do not seem perturbed about the financial difficulties the victims do face.
Promotions
Speaking on the promotion of teachers, Ellis Ferdinand argued that instead of the president reminding teachers of their woes, he should direct the GES to quickly work on the promotion challenges being faced by teachers to be able to help them get higher salaries.
Upgrading
He further argued that the president should help work on the upgrading of teachers who qualified but were denied unintentionally to make them invest their monies into other ventures to make them millionaires.

President Akuffo Addo has said that the teaching profession is not meant to make teachers millionaires but to make their contributions to the welfare of the country.
President Akuffo Addo made this statement on Friday, July 9, 2021, when the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) called on him in the Jubilee House to discuss preparations towards the Association’s 90th Anniversary Celebration.
According to the President, there was nowhere in the world where people go into teaching expecting to become millionaires and make money.

He added, that if teachers want to become millionaires, they need to do other things.
He however indicated that people go into teaching because they want to contribute to the welfare of the country, which he believes teachers in Ghana have shown over the years.
