Some students of the University of Ghana have petitioned the Electoral Commission of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council (UG-SRC) over the release of vetting results of SRC executive aspirants for the 2019/2020 academic year.
According to these students, the Vetting Committee of the EC should desist from the practice of showing the extent to which the vetted aspirants performed at the sitting.
It has become a normal practice of Vetting Committees set up by previous Electoral Commissions that it publishes the degree of performance of candidates.

Making reference to Chapter (2)(4)(k) of the Constitutional Instrument governing the conduct of this year’s SRC election, the students mentioned that the Vetting Committee was to be absolute in their publication of the Vetting Results.
This year, Chapter (2)(4)(k) of the Constitutional Instrument of the Electoral Commission of the Students
Representative Council of the University of Ghana for the conduct of the 2019 SRC Elections states that “… vetting committee shall publish a list of all qualified persons within 24 hours after the close of the vetting.” This provision in the CI makes it clear that the vetting results that must be published must be absolute. Thus, the vetting committee must announce those who pass the cumulative 70% mark and those who do not. It must desist from showing the extent to which the candidates pass the stipulated mark.
The petitioners further advised the EC “never act or attempt to act in any way that will compromise on sections on the Constitutional Instrument of the Electoral Commission of the Students Representative Council of the University of Ghana for the conduct of the 2019 SRC Election and also compromise on the duty to ensure fairness by an electoral commission and such bodies in a democratic space.”

They also gave the EC 48hours to respond to their petition.
“We expect a response stating clearly the absence of any such intentions to publish vetting results in the prejudicial manner described above and other relevant related issues within 48 hours
The petitioners are Daniel Nana Yaw Obeng and Wisdom Ndukwe.
