Students of the Ghana School of Hygiene on Thursday, August 6, 2020 picketed at the premises of the Sanitation Ministry in protest against the nonpayment of their allowances.
According to the angry students, their allowances have been scrapped without justification, despite the restoration of allowances for other nursing students.
They are even more saddened by the situation as they are the highest fee-paying nursing school in the country.
The students say that whilst they are struggling with the nonpayment of allowances, they are sacked from school when they are unable to pay their fees.
Calm was however restored after their leaders had a meeting the sector Minister, Madam Cecilia Dapaah.

Speaking to UniversNews after the meeting, one of the students said hinted of another meeting with the Finance Ministry for confirmation of promises made to them at the Sanitation Ministry.
“Our first issue has been partially resolved. We are following up at the Ministry of Finance to ascertain the actuality before we can confirm some of the things they told us. On the matter of principals allowing students to write exams, the Ministry has indicated that they are going to direct them to allow students who owe fee arrears to sit for the exam,” he said.
Last month, final year students of the School boycotted their final exam which was scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2020.
The boycott was to register their grievances with the nonpayment of allowances.
President of the Coalition of Hygiene Students, Raymond Anokye Jnr, at the time, said that a petition had been sent to the Office of the President and copied to the Ministry of Health as well as Sanitation Ministry, has fallen on deaf ears, hence the action.
