The University of Cape Coast has appointed Prof. Daniel Agyapong as the new Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, marking another milestone in his distinguished academic journey.
A Proven Leader in Academia and Finance
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has announced the appointment of Professor Daniel Agyapong as the new Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, effective June 2025. This significant elevation underscores the university’s confidence in his leadership and deep-rooted academic expertise.
Prof. Agyapong’s journey is a testament to resilience, discipline, and academic excellence. Born in 1974 in Sefwi Anhiawso in the Western North Region, he began his academic journey at Suhum Secondary Technical School (SUTESCO) before gaining admission to UCC in 1999.
Academic and Professional Rise
After joining UCC as a Senior Research Assistant in 2004, Prof. Agyapong quickly rose through the ranks. In 2007, he completed his MPhil in Business Administration (Finance) at the University of Ghana and was appointed as a lecturer in 2009.
By 2013, he became a Senior Lecturer, earned his PhD in Finance from Open University Malaysia in 2015, and attained the rank of Associate Professor in 2017. His crowning academic achievement came in February 2021, when he was promoted to full Professor in Finance and Entrepreneurship.
Prof. Agyapong is renowned for his over 70 publications in Conventional Finance, SME financing, and entrepreneurship. His scholarship has had a considerable impact on Ghana’s business and academic environment.
Strategic Roles at UCC
In August 2022, Prof. Agyapong was appointed as the Director of the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance at UCC, where he led policy formulation, institutional research, and quality improvement strategies.
He also delivered a thought-provoking inaugural lecture in February 2024, titled:
“Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprises’ Development Night Journey: The Road Monsters, Fairies, and Angels.”
Faith, Family, and Service
Prof. Agyapong is a devoted member of the University of Cape Coast Interdenominational Church (UIC). He is married to Prof. Gloria K.Q Agyapong, and the couple is blessed with three children.
His appointment as Provost is not only a celebration of his past but a challenge to shape the future of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, one of UCC’s most prominent academic units.
