Students of Prestea Senior High School have staged a protest over the continued use of their campus road by the community, citing overspeeding and repeated knockdown incidents.

Students Demand End to Community Use of Campus Road

Students of Prestea Senior High School in the Western Region left their classrooms today to protest what they describe as the unsafe and unauthorised use of a road running through their campus. They argue that frequent overspeeding by vehicles and motorbikes poses a danger to their safety and disrupts teaching and learning.According to the students, the school has recorded several knockdown incidents over the years. They further claim that in most cases drivers do not stop to assist the injured, leaving the school to cover medical costs.

Temporary Access Has Become Permanent

The students explained that the community first approached the school about five years ago to request temporary access to the campus route. The arrangement was meant to last only three months while repairs were carried out on the main access road. They state that the community has continued to rely on the campus road since then, with no indication of ending the practice.

Students Block Road in Protest

Video footage from the campus shows students using classroom desks to block the road. Many wore red bands as a sign of their frustration. Police officers were later deployed to keep order. The Boys’ Prefect, Abdul Basit, shared the students’ concerns, noting that the continued use of the road has created an unsafe environment. He explained that the noise, overspeeding and risk of accidents interrupt lessons daily, and students cannot remain passive while their safety is compromised.

Call for Immediate Action

The students are calling on authorities to stop the use of the campus as a through route and restore safe learning conditions. They insist the school environment should not function as a public road.
