Photos: Sandema SEC-TECH student killed in riot

Management of Sandema Senior Technical School (SEC-TECH) is considering closing down the school following the death of a first year male student late last night.

The student is said to have died in a clash between the students and police who had been called into the school to control a riot.

According to reports, an attempt by the school’s cadet to drive the rioting students into their dormitories sparked the riots.

The students were said to have hurled stones and other dangerous objects at staff and destroyed school property.

School authorities then called the police to restore calm. But, the students started attacking them resulting in the firing of warning shots to diffuse the situation.

In the process, a student was hit by a stray bullet.

The student, who was hit in the chest, was rushed by the police to the Sandema District Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after he was admitted.

Joy News’ Albert Sore reported that, Builsa North District Security Council, led by the District Chief Executive , David Afoko has been in a meeting with school authorities who are yet to speak on the matter.
