Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS, Saltpond, on Friday beat Yaa Asantewa Girls’ SHS, Kumasi, in a keenly contested grand finale of the 63rd Independence Day and 23rd Inter School Debate held at the Great Hall, KNUST.
It was an exhibition of wits and succinct articulations of arguments for and against the motion; “Technology has made humans physically and mentally dormant”
The intellectual affair, was a thrilling contest as it was revealing with intermittent cheers from the fully packed audience in the hall.

The panel of judges in a unanimous verdict scored Mfantsiman Girls’ 78% whereas Yaa Asantewa secured 63%.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah, in his remarks after witnessing the intellectual battle of brains, praised the high level of confidence and intelligence the debaters demonstrated.
He encouraged the lost team not to be downhearted having come thus far from the inter-school level all the way to the grand finale among 721 senior high schools.
Hon. Osei Mensah congratulated the winning team and asked them to be magnanimous in victory.
The Regional Minister called on teachers, parents and the society to guard and guide these debaters to leadership roles in the near future.
The debaters received cash prizes, laptops and certificates of participation from the Ghana Education Service. The coaches also received cash prizes as incentives to do more.
