The Ghana Education Service (GES) has begun a mandatory ‘double-track shift system’ in all of its regional, metropolitan, municipal and district education offices.
The purpose of the introduction of the ‘shift-system’ was to ensure Social Distancing at its offices in the midst of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh made this revelation at a media briefing on the preparedness of the Education Sector on the COVID-19 Pandemic in Accra on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
According to the Minister, the workforce has been split into two, of which one group was expected to work for a week and the other coming for the next week, a strategy he believes was in line with the social distancing meant to prevent the spread.

According to the Minister, parents who pay teachers to teach their wards at home or in their schools secretly, are risking paying the teachers in an exchange for the Coronavirus since the virus isn’t written on any individual.

Cooking Staff
Earlier, the Ghana Education Service (GES) asked all kitchen staff in all schools to take a break for enough rest until students resume.
The Ghana Education Service gave some other directives to its administrative staff at the regional, metropolitan, municipal and district education offices.
The directives come in the wake of directives from the government which called for a total shut down of some institutions to prevent the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

In a letter dated March 21, 2020, signed by the Director of Human Resource Management Division, Dr. Adjoa Van Vicker for the Director-General, all staff who can conveniently be granted all or part of their annual leave should be considered for such leave.
It further stated, that each division or unit to have at most two supporting staff and the Director.
”All other staff should be put on a one-week rotational schedule starting Tuesday, March 24, 2020” It emphasized.
