The 2018 batch of teachers from the Colleges of Education, who have been posted to teach in the public basic schools is calling on the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to pay them their salaries.
The teachers are saying the government has not paid them their salaries since being employed some four months ago.

Speaking to EducationGhana’s Ellis Ferdinand, the Newly trained teachers said the inability of the government paying their salaries for the past four months has affected their lives negatively, most especially in the wake of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the teachers, they got posted somewhere in November 2019 and have been asked to report at work on 2nd December 2019 according to their appointment letters.
They added, that since December till date, they have not received any salary from Government even though they have taught since their appointment.

”Fortunately, for us, we got posted somewhere in November 2019 and have been asked to report at work on 2nd December 2019 according to the appointment letter.” They said.
Describing their challenges since College, the teachers said they were supposed to be posted in September 2018 but, the NPP government led by His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo imposed on them a one-year mandatory National Service after forcing them to write Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination for the first time in the history of Ghana.

”As am talking to you now, we have taught for 4 good months without receiving any Salary from the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD )before this Pandemic issue crop up.”
”We have just entered the Fifth month yesterday and we don’t know the plans that the government have for us” they lamented.

Biometric Registration
According to the teachers, teachers from two regions, that is Greater Accra and Central regions. that did their biometric registration was paid their four-months salary arrears.
The teachers indicated, that such teachers took part in a biometric registration exercise that took place in February 2020.
” The remaining 14 regions are yet to even do their biometric registrations before this novel COVID-19 pandemic issue came up” they said.

The teachers said they wanted the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to give them a possible update regarding their biometric registration and payment schedule.
