The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a firm warning to heads of Senior High and Technical Schools over the unauthorised registration of candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).In an official statement dated January 8, 2026, GES said it had observed troubling instances where some school heads were illegally registering Form Two students and private candidates, often in exchange for money.

Only Form Three Students Are Eligible

GES clarified that only Form Three students with traceable academic records from Year One to Year Three in a school’s database are eligible to be registered for WASSCE by school authorities.Any attempt to register Form Two students or private candidates, the Service stressed, is strictly prohibited.

GES Describes Act as Misconduct and Abuse of Office

According to the statement, any head or school official found engaging in such practices is guilty of misconduct and abuse of office, particularly where money is charged for the illegal registration. The directive applies to all Senior High and Technical Schools nationwide without exception.

Severe Sanctions Await Offenders

GES warned that breaches of the directive will attract severe sanctions, in line with existing GES and WAEC regulations. The Service emphasised that enforcement will be strict, signalling a renewed effort to protect the integrity of Ghana’s pre-tertiary examination system. RELATED ARTICLES
