COVID-19: Online Program on Core Subjects for SHS Students begins – NAPO

Senior High School students are expected to visit online to study all core subjects for free amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) break.

Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh said this at a media briefing on the preparedness of the Education Sector on the COVID-19 Pandemic in Accra on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

According to the Minister, The Centre for Distance Learning Organizations has developed an online program for all the core contents in the Senior High Schools.

He indicated, all Senior High School students have been given passwords and access to an Icampus System, where there are notes with exercises, with over 20,000 interactive quizzes.

The platform also has audiovisuals learnings which include virtual laboratories, interactive lessons and over 3,000 sets of notes, and audiovisual resources from Open Educational Resources.

He indicated the materials have already available for each Senior High School student acces with their passwords and its available for free.

He called on the Ministry of information as well as communication to meet up with telecommunication companies to zero-rate all educational contents so that students from any part of the country can have access to the contents for free.

Cautions

The Minister cautioned heads of public and private educational institutions to desist from organizing classes for students in their schools.

The Minister emphasized, that heads of institutions who flouted this directive, do that at their own risks.

Secret Extra Classes

According to the Minister, parents who pay teachers to teach their wards at home or in their schools secretly, are risking paying the teachers in an exchange for the Coronavirus since the virus isn’t written on any individual.

He further indicated such parents might be losing money to acquire a deadly virus whose cure isn’t yet known.
