The Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has cautioned heads of public and private educational institutions to desist from organizing classes for students in their schools.
The Minister emphasized, that heads of institutions who flouted this directive, do that at their own risks.
Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh said this at a media briefing on the preparedness of the Education Sector on the COVID-19 Pandemic in Accra on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
He emphasized that the shut down of schools was a total shut down for both private and public educational institutions.
The Minister said all international examination bodies have postponed their exams indefinitely hence could not understand why schools are still preparing for such exams at these crucial times.
Secret Extra Classes
According to the Minister, parents who pay teachers to teach their wards at home or in their schools secretly, are risking paying the teachers in an exchange for the Coronavirus since the virus isn’t written on any individual.

Cooking Staff
Earlier, the Ghana Education Service (GES) asked all kitchen staff in all schools to take a break for enough rest until students resume.
The Ghana Education Service gave some other directives to its administrative staff at the regional, metropolitan, municipal and district education offices.
The directives come in the wake of directives from the government which called for a total shut down of some institutions to prevent the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

In a letter dated March 21, 2020, signed by the Director of Human Resource Management Division, Dr. Adjoa Van Vicker for the Director-General, all staff who can conveniently be granted all or part of their annual leave should be considered for such leave.
It further stated, that each division or unit to have at most two supporting staff and the Director.
”All other staff should be put on a one-week rotational schedule starting Tuesday, March 24, 2020” It emphasized.
