Achimota School today defeated the Kaneshie boys of Accra Academy in the Regional Championship of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
Although the first round was not very favourable for the one-time National Champions, they managed to pull out some tricks during the second round, which was a speed race.
Their show of mastery in the second round fired them to the top of the four schools for the first time in today’s final.
Clearly, the final score proved that St. John’s Grammar School and Ada SHS were spectators in the final.
At the end of the third round, both Achimota School and Accra Academy were at par – with 41 points each – and Ada SHS and St. John’s Grammar School trailing with 25 points and 24 points respectively.
Achimota School and Accra Academy students were virtually sitting on pins and needles as the slightest mistake, would deny one the bragging rights.
The contest however ended with Achimota School scoring 45points, with just a point ahead of the Kaneshie boys.
Despite Accra Aca’s narrow defeat, their facial expression wasn’t like that of a loser.
Ada SHS and St. John’s Grammar also continued their friendship at the bottom.
St. John’s Grammar School scored 27 points, one less than that of Ada SHS
Regardless of the results in this contest, all four schools will compete in the National competition scheduled to come off later this year.
