Three Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the country has reportedly denied 23-year-old Abu Safianu Yahaya, an ex-convict who sat for the immediate past Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and passed admission.
According to Safianu who dreams of becoming a nurse, the Management of Awe Senior High School, Fumbisi Senior High School, Sandema Senior High School denied him admission because of his ex-convict status.
Speaking in an interview with Crimecheckghana, the ex-convict BECE graduate said “All the schools I tried to get admission asked me to go back to my former school for a recommendation letter before they can admit me.”
“The Awe SHS headteacher after reading the recommendation from the Kumasi Central Prison where I wrote my BECE, told me unless I go to the GES head office in Accra he wouldn’t be in the position to admit me.”
For the Authorities of Fumbisi Senior High School, Abu Safianu Yahaya said “the Fumbisi Senior High School (SHS) Headteacher who seemed willing to admit me said he would get into trouble if he enrols me in the school.”

The 23-year-old denied admission 3 times was convicted by a Kumasi High Court for stealing and was jailed to serve 12 years at the Kumasi Central Prison after he and his accomplice snatched someone’s bag in Kumasi.
