“2020 WASSCE question papers ready & safe, no leakages this year” – WAEC assures

ADDO QUESTIONS

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured the general public and it’s relevant stakeholders that the annual examination leakages associated with the conduct of the test will not be experienced this year.

The Head of WAEC Examinations Administration, Mr. Godfred Addo speaking in a Zoom interview with Samuel Eshun on Happy Morning show monitored by Georgeweb.org said the Council has put effective measures in place to resolve the challenge hence no leakages are expected this year.

Over the past years, the Examination Council (WAEC) has canceled and withheld several examination results due to suspected leakages.

Mr. Godfred Addo attributed the leakage of the WASSCE question papers to some scrupulous individuals operating rogue websites and promising to deliver the questions to students at a fee before even the start of the examination.

He also added that some invigilators intentionally take pictures of the question papers and share to various social media platforms which result in leakages leading to cancellation of some or the entire papers.

He assured that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is fully prepared to deal with individuals this year.

“The 2020 WASSCE question papers are ready and safe with a 24-hour security guard,” he said.

When host Samuel Eshun asked him of any possible examination leakage this year he insisted that “there will be no exams leakage this year”, adding that “the questions are safe, sealed, and under a 24/7 watch”.

He, however, cautioned operators of rogue websites and invigilators to desist from such illegal acts.

The Deputy Director of Public Affairs of WAEC added that the Council will not hesitate to cancel the some or the entire papers should they suspect any examination malpractice even though we are not in normal times.

WAEC in 2016 arrested ten people as part of an effort to clamp down on websites suspected to be releasing fake questions as leaked examination papers.
