Kpando Senior High School exhibited a great performance at the one-eighth stage of the ongoing National Science and Maths Quiz Competition by exiting Aburi Girls SHS with a shameful gap .
Aburi Girls SHS could not replicate the performance of their colleagues from Cape Coast, as they crushed out of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Saturday morning.
The Presbyterian all-girls’ school sited on the mountains at Aburi in the Eastern region, placed last in the one-eighth stage contest which also featured Ashanti region-based Kumasi High SHS and Kpando SHS- the eventual winners.
They were expected to take inspiration from Wesley Girls SHS from Central region capital, who were outstanding in their contest at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium at the University of Ghana, Legon on Friday.
WeyGeyHey as they are also called, became the first all-girls’ school to reach the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing competition.
But Kpando SHS took the lead right from the beginning of the contest and maintained that steady performance all the way to the fifth round.
The Volta region-based school outperformed their counterparts and left a 14-point gap between them their closest challengers, Kumasi High.
At the end of the fifth round, Kpando SHS scored 45 points, Kumasi High had 31 points while Aburi Girls scored just 15 points.
They are through to the next stage of the competition while Aburi Girls and Kumasi High would have to go through the regional contests to book their places at the national level next year.
