UTAG Strike: UG, UCC,UEW, 10 other Public Universities issue Resolution to continue Strike

EducationGhana, August 10, UTAG STRIKE:  The University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Education, Winneba(UEW) and some ten other public Universities have issued resolutions calling for a continuation of the strike action declared by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) on August 2, 2021.

Purpose of Call

This was made known in a resolution from the member campuses of the association issued on Sunday, August 8, 2021.

The separate resolutions from the Public Universities suggest that the mother Association should stand its ground without any compromise until the government positively responds to their $2,084.42  2012 Basic Salary payable in cedi equivalence.

 Other Universities 

Public universities that joined the above-mentioned universities include the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), the University for Development Studies (UDS), the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies ( SDD- UBIDS) , the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU),

Others include the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Navrongo (CKT- UTAS), the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), and the University of Professional Studies, Accra. (UPSA),

UTAG August 2021 Strike

They (UTAG) have been asking the government to restore the conditions of service agreed upon with the government in 2012.

The 2012 conditions of service pegged the basic plus market premium of a lecturer at $2,084.42.

UTAG has complained that the current arrangement has reduced its members’ basic premiums to $997.84.
