Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has met with the student leadership of the University at the Accra City Campus.
The meeting follows a petition that was brought to his office over what may be described as worsening teaching and learning conditions at the Accra City campus.
The petition from the students sought to draw his attention to the conditions at the Accra City Campus and call for immediate action.
At Wednesday’s meeting, the Vice-Chancellor promised to attend to the needs of the students at the Accra City campus.
He also urged them to be calm as University Management was equally concerned about the state of the Accra City Campus.
Speaking to UniversNews after the meeting, Students Representative Council president of the University of Ghana Accra City Campus, Solomon Kojo Ocansey, was optimistic that their needs will soon be met.
He was also glad that the Vice-Chancellor would take time off his busy schedule to visit the campus over the matter.
He explained that the Vice-Chancellor, in making time to listen to the plea of students, was a step in the right direction and that gives rise to hopes for a better resolution.
“After having the meeting with the VC, the interaction was so positive. It seems that everything that was raised in our petition was considered to the extent that even the ones that we felt was more difficult, it seems that the VC is more receptive to whatever we discussed.

Solomon Ocansey however added that even though most of their pleas in the petition were considered, deadlines for resolutions were not given.
“The problem we had was the time limit. Of course we can’t have the whole time for the meeting. Secondly most of the agreements we had were not backed by the dates so we were instructed to meet the principal to look for the deadlines for everything that we stated or every kind of resolution that we made. So hopefully we will be bringing that update to the student populace. We are much positive about the turnout. We are so positive”.
The Accra City Campus SRC President further called on students to join in fighting for the welfare of City Campus adding that the SRC is going to increase it’s effort until the problems are solved.
“This has yielded some form of result for us. For the first time the VC coming to City campus to meet with the students to discuss issues. In fact, this petition has really done well.
On that note, we are calling for students support. We are not done and we want students support to increase. The fact that we met with the VC doesn’t mean we should relax. Until we’ve seen this result fulfilled, we are not resting. Now the VC has opened his door to us and it’s quite positive”.
