UG: Suspected thief apprehended in Legon Hall

A man, believed to be in his early twenty’s has been apprehended at the Legon hall in the University of Ghana for allegedly breaking into the rooms of students.

The suspect is said to have entered into about eight (8) rooms at the M block over the course of the week.

The rooms, which are in the upper and lower sections of the block, are occupied by females.

According to reports by #UniversNews, a resident of the hall noticed that some of the rooms, whose occupants have left for home, were broken into.

“On Monday, around 7 pm, we saw that someone was toying with the lights. The persons will turn it on and off, so you’d think the bulbs are faulty. Finally, they all went off, and we went to ambush the suspect. Two of us approached from the L block whiles the other two were at the library before the two could get to the stairs, he had climbed the stairs, gone to to the upper block and jumped out of the hall but the rails caught his legs so he fell on his knees and injured himself, we chased him to Akuafo Hall and caught him lying under the hedges.” an eyewitness recounted.

Further reports gathered by #UniversNews indicate that this is not the first time he has been caught for allegedly stealing.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the Legon police.

Meanwhile, the Legon Hall JCR has debunked a communique asking students residing in the M block to come and check their belongings for missing items.

The residents are entreated to stay home and observe the lockdown directive imposed by the government.

The JCR also called for calm among students especially those residing in the affected block and stated that hall management is working together with the police in the best interest of the students.
