UEW SRC blames government for congregation delay

The President of the Students Representative Council of the University of Education Winneba, Emmanuel Oduro Fosu, has blamed government for the indefinite postponement of the schools 2018/2019 congregation ceremony.

Management of the school had scheduled to have its congregation on Monday July, 22, but following the non-existence of a Governing Council for the University, the ceremony was unable to come off – leaving the fate of some 12,000 students in limbo.

Speaking to UniversNews, Emmanuel Oduro, who had once told UniversNews that the congregation will not delay, says that the blame for the indefinite postponement of the ceremony should laid at the feet of government.

According to him, management of the school have fulfilled their role in appointing the needed people for the reconstitution of a Governing Council.

Management has done their part by sending its appointees for the Governing Council to government. What they were waiting for is for government to add its list, so that they can do the necessary inauguration, he said

Regardless of the arguments presented by Emmanuel Oduro Fosu, a group, calling itself the Concerned Students and Alumni, have exonerated government of all blames.

Leader of the group, Victor Osei Agyapong, says that the ‘incompetence’ of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, is what has prompted the delay in the reconstitution of a governing council.

All that we want for a Governing Council to be inaugurated. But government will only do so if the members of the Council are competent and have the ability to steer affairs of the university. Looking at what has gone on for the past two years, The Vice-Chancellor has showed clearly that he is not competent to steer the affairs of the university,” he said.
