Teacher absenteeism reduced from 27% to 7% under John Mahama – Ablakwa

The member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has stated that teacher absenteeism reduced from 27% to 7% under Former President John Mahama’s administration.

Honourable Ablakwa was speaking on TV 3, a Media General Television station in Accra on Saturday, August 29,2020, while defending the achievements of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Education under the John Mahama administration where he served as a deputy minister of education.

Hon Ablakwa said the NDC government put in place, measures to curb the high rate of absenteeism among teachers in the country.

According to him, Former President Mahama was looking at equity, access and quality Education hence measures were put in place to achieve that.

He noted that the government met with teacher unions to put up road maps for ensuring teacher satisfaction in schools and preventing absenteeism among teachers.

He indicated that their continuous meeting with Unions and other stakeholders had led toa drastic reduction in absenteeism which they came to meet in the office, from 27% to 7%.

Hon. Ablakwa said the right systems were also put in place to ensure teachers do not absent themselves from school.

He said it was unfortunate parents could allow their children to go to school without teachers in the classrooms.
