Students of Kumasi Technical University sue SRC and admin over election illegalities

Tension has been brewing at the Kumasi Technical University following disagreements between students and the SRC over the results of an election held on the school’s campus.
Reports suggest an unqualified candidate was allowed to contest and win a portfolio, which has led to a litigation.
One candidate, identified as Frank Wereko Brobbey, was reportedly not eligible to contest but was allowed to.
He went on to win the election by a huge margin, sparking protests from a section of the student body.
There are claims that Frank didn’t meet the required CGPA to contest for a position in the school.

Some students suspect he was allowed to contest because he has deep connections within the administration and the SRC.
The candidacy of some other aspirants were also challenged as they were reportedly yet to register for their courses as at the time they filed their nomination.
However, the concerns of the students were swept under the carpet with the election allowed to go on.
The SRC and administration have since been dragged to court over the ongoing election dispute.
Meanwhile, an injunction has also been placed on the handing over and swearing-in of the newly-elected executives.
The case will be heard at the Kumasi High Court on July 26, 2019.
