KNUST donates GHC100,000 to winners of Presidential Pitch Season II Competition

The Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Obiri-Danso, has on behalf of the University donated GH¢100,000.00 to the winners of the Presidential Pitch Season II Competition.

Professor Obiri-Danso in addition also mentioned that the University would provide an office space, production site, machinery and other required assistance needed for the production of the winning product, Floyabana Pad.

Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, said these when the winners of the Presidential Pitch Season II, Miss Emily Otoo-Quayson and Miss Matilda Asantewaa Sampong, accompanied by the Vice Dean of Students’ and officials of the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at KNUST (MCFSP at KNUST) paid a courtesy call on him.

The Vice Chancellor congratulated the winners for their success.

“As a University, we are ready to give all the support needed to champion this course’, he assured.

He was hopeful that the winners would develop the product into a competitive brand for the good of Ghanaians.

Miss Emily Otoo on behalf of her group expressed gratitude to the management of the University for the wonderful gesture.

According to her, the pressing needs of upcoming entrepreneurs is lack of office space and startup capital.

She therefore promised that the University’s support would be put to good use.

She appealed to others to support their industry.

Fluoyabana Pad uses cotton and banana stem to produce the pads which are cheaper.

Tests show the banana sanitary pads made were able to absorb much water just like their western counterparts.

Brains behind the innovation, Emily Otoo Quayeson and Matilda Asantewaa Sampong, both students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Ghana, earlier received GHC 60,000 for emerging as winners of the Presdential Pitch which was organized by the Business Development Ministry in partnership with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP).

In addition, they received GH¢40,000 from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
