The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has reiterated that neither the Ministry of Education nor Government has approved the guidelines for the Comprehensive Sexual Education in the country.
According to him, though a new curriculum is being started this year, the CSE is not part of the new curriculum.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh gave the assurance when he addressed the Ghana Teacher Prize 2019 in Kumasi.
In the early 1970s, Ghana saw a huge number of it’s teachers migrating to other countries due to economic hardship.
This weakened the educational standard in the country.
For this reason government in 1987 introduced the Education Reform Program to rejuvenate and augment the excellence of education.
This aroused the increased access to education, refurbished schools, building of schools and increased flow if books, equipment and materials.
Ghana has since 1995, October 5, which is a day set aside globally to honour teachers.
The core reason is to ensure that Ghana conforms to the standard of global Teacher prize.
This years event was held in Kumasi on theme “Young Teachers: the future of the Profession.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh reiterated that neither his ministry or government has approved the guidelines for the Comprehensive sexual education as speculated.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh explained that though a new curriculum is being started this year thus the reviewing of text books and guidelines, the CSE is not part of the curriculum. Sound up end cue.
The Acting Executive Secret of the National Teaching Council, Christian Addai Poku noted that it is globally accepted that the education of a nation cannot exceed the quality of it’s teachers.
He said if education is the foundation of the national development then it is not out of place to describe the teacher as the most important professions Ghana needs especially as government has made education the number one national priority.
Mr. Addai Poku therefore called on government to ensure that teachers are highly acknowledged and properly rewarded for their critical role in society.
