COVID-19: Bank of Ghana hospital to treat only staff and VIPs

The Bank of Ghana hospital in Accra is to be used by the Ministry of Health for the treatment of some selected Coronavirus patients.

The selected patients are only staff of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and some VIPs.

The Minister of Health, Mr Kweku Agyeman Manu, at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, April 1, said Ministry reached an agreement with officials of the BoG to use the facility since it did not belong to the Health Ministry.

He said two floors, hosting 20 beds, have been given to the ministry for the purpose of treating patients.

“I kept on telling people that the Ministry of Health has not got direct jurisdiction over the Bank of Ghana hospital. We have had engagements with the Bank of Ghana and they have released two floors [of BoG hospital] to take care of 20 beds for our use. Because the facility does not belong to the Ministry of Health, Bank of Ghana has agreed that their own people and some VIP personnel will be allowed there,” he said.

Mr Ayeman Manu also noted that the University of Ghana Medical Centre was ready for use with 14 beds for the holding area and treatment respectively, and five for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Other health facilities such as the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where the Ministry of Health has direct jurisdiction have already taken in a number COVID-19 patients from all walks of life and still treating some of them.

Ghana as of Wednesday, April 1, has recorded 195 cases of the novel coronavirus.
