Volta Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu receives a 42-page report on the Sokode SHS incident, uncovering student indiscipline, drug use, and ₵175,000 in damages; findings sent to the Attorney-General’s Department.
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, today received the final report of the seven-member committee tasked with investigating the recent Sokode Senior High School incident. Chaired by Mr. Alexander Mawusi Buadi, the committee’s 42-page report was compiled after interviewing 43 individuals, including students, staff, and community stakeholders.
The report revealed alarming levels of student indiscipline, citing instances of drug use, unauthorised campus exits, and other breaches of school regulations. It further exposed significant governance lapses within the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), School Board, and Student Representative Council (SRC), which failed to enforce discipline or provide adequate oversight.

Financial assessments in the report estimate GH₵175,000 in damages to school property, including vandalized classrooms, laboratory equipment, and dormitory facilities. The findings underscore systemic weaknesses in school management and student welfare mechanisms.
In acknowledging the committee’s work, Hon. Gunu expressed deep appreciation for the thoroughness of the investigation. “This report provides a clear roadmap for corrective measures. We must restore discipline, accountability, and trust within our schools,” he stated.
The Regional Minister announced that the report will be forwarded to the Attorney‑General’s Department to obtain legal advice and determine appropriate disciplinary and judicial actions. Further, he pledged to work closely with the Ghana Education Service, local authorities, and community leaders to implement the committee’s recommendations and safeguard the welfare of students.
The Sokode SHS incident has prompted calls for nationwide reviews of school governance structures and student support systems to prevent similar occurrences across Ghana’s senior high schools.
