Unpublished draft of our books got to the market unknowingly during review – Badu Nkansah Publication

Publishers of the infamous History of Ghana Textbook for Basic Schools, which has been described as being bigotry and highly ethnocentric and biased against the Ewe ethnic group has described the incident as unfortunate, claiming an Unpublished draft of their books got to the market during the review of their books unknowingly.

Badu Nkansah Publications in an apologetic statement issued in response to the public uproar on the bigoted publications indicated the company was not aware of the release of the draft onto the market.

Investigations

The company said it was sorry for the release of the draft to the market and shall start an investigation to verify the cause of the release.

Badu Nkansah Publications further indicated it shall make the results of the investigation public.

NaCCA’s review

In the statement, the company indicated, it submitted a textbook assessment for approval on the History ofGnana for Basic 6  to the   National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) in January 2020.

The company said NaCCA upon receipt of their application and assessment of the book gave them a response in 2020, September 25.

They added, that ”the NaCCA raised concerns with portions of the book even though it indicated satisfaction with the technical and content requirements.

”They however told us to work on certain aspects of the book further in other fot it to meet the expectations of the New  Curriculum’ They said.

The Unfortunate Release

Badu Nkansah Publications indicated, that unfortunately while undergoing the review, a limited quantity of the unpublished draft find its way into the market.

The company said it saw snapshots of sections of the books with offensive tones on social media, indicating it been unfortunate and not meant to berate any ethnic group in Ghana.

 

Wayforward

The company said it has called for an immediate withdrawal of all of its books from the market to ascertain the errors for corrections and subsequent approval by NaCCA.
