University of Ghana Unveils New Diamond Jubilee Hall to Enhance Student Accommodation
The University of Ghana has officially commissioned the Diamond Jubilee Hall, a modern accommodation facility designed to alleviate student housing challenges.
This state-of-the-art building is a legacy project from the University’s 75th anniversary celebrations and was constructed using an innovative cost-saving construction model financed through Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
Facility Overview and Features
The GHS 55 million Diamond Jubilee Hall offers a range of accommodation options, including:
- 64 rooms with shared bathroom facilities
- 184 double rooms with shared washroom facilities on each floor
Each floor is equipped with:
- Washrooms and four kitchenettes
- Reading rooms on all three floors
- A TV room on one floor
- Management offices and a maintenance unit for quick issue resolution
Additionally, each room features an individual electricity meter, allowing students to recharge via a planned vending system.

Vice Chancellor’s Remarks
At the commissioning ceremony, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor of the University, highlighted the significance of the project in fulfilling the University’s strategic priority of transforming student experience.
She acknowledged the challenges faced during the project’s journey, including legal and funding hurdles, and praised the unique construction model that made the project possible.
“This model, integrating management and contracting methodologies with agile project management, fast-tracking, and value engineering principles, enabled the University to complete the project efficiently and at a significantly reduced cost,” she explained.
Student Access and Application Process
The Vice Chancellor announced that the hall would soon be available for student accommodation, with details about the application process to be communicated shortly.
She urged students to be responsible stewards of the facility, emphasizing that the rooms were designed with their comfort in mind.
Gratitude and Acknowledgments
Professor Amfo expressed her gratitude to all individuals and departments involved in the successful completion of the project, particularly the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PSMSD).
